More equality makes us stronger

From November to February, the theme of inequality will be at the heart of House of Compassion. Oxfam reported at the beginning of the year that inequality was on the rise worldwide. Yet it has been scientifically proven that more equality makes people healthier and happier.
On Saturday 2 December, Professor Emer. Richard Wilkinson will present his scientific study (online). Together with his wife Kate Pickett, they have spent decades studying the impact of a lack of equality on the well-being of society as a whole. The results are very clear and are described in their book “The Spirit Level“. In terms of physical and mental health (and nine other indicators), countries where inequality prevails perform significantly worse. In short, all members of society benefit from greater equality.
His presentation will be followed by local testimonies and a question-and-answer session: what does this mean for Belgium and Brussels?
